Hana Nelson – Director
In 2014 Hana founded Afishionado, a sustainable, transparent and Nova Scotian based company that sources and markets Ocean Wise certified NS seafood across Canada and she was the sole owner until she sold the business in 2021. Afishionado grew from a one-person seafood counter to a CFIA inspected processing company with an artisanal in-house smoking facility and multi-million annual sales across Canada and the USA.
Hana’s CV includes a broad range of experiences: AcroSan, Haiti – Executive Director, for emergency sanitation systems for hard-to-serve, high density communities in Haiti and Nepal. MSVU – part-time Faculty, taught courses at the graduate and undergraduate level in the faculty of Applied Human Nutrition. NS Department of Agriculture – Transition Officer, Lunenburg, Food Advisory services supporting key industry stakeholders.
Her education includes a MSc in Agroecology, double degree program with ISARA Lyon, école d’ingénieurs en agriculture, France and the University of Life Sciences, Norway, and a BSc Biology and International Development from Dalhousie.
Hana and Philip reside on Big Island where they raise oysters with the assistance of their two children.
