Charlie MacLean – Chair
Charlie MacLean grew up in North Sydney, and spent many hours working in the family garden. Upon completing high school, he attended Acadia University and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration. During the time at Acadia, he also worked in the Food Service Department to help make ends meet. Upon graduation he was employed with Saga Corporation as a Food Service Manager at Acadia, and later as Food Service Director at St. F. X. University, Saint John General Hospital, Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton, and back to Halifax at University of Kings College. In 1987 he was hired by The Northside Harbor View Hospital Corporation to manage the Food Service Department for the Northside General Hospital in North Sydney and Harbor View Hospital in Sydney Mines. With the 1996 amalgamation of health care facilities in Industrial Cape Breton, a need was identified to manage a group food purchasing operation previously done by Nova Scotia Association of Health Organizations (now known as HANS). Charlie was asked to consider this challenge, and agreed to do so under the name of Nova Scotian Health Care Purchasing Limited, until his retirement in 2014. Along the way, he and his wife Sue raised three daughters, and spent many happy vacations in their cottage in the New Ross area.
