Uprooted Market & Cafe – Musquodoboit Harbour
Uprooted Market & Cafe was founded by Emma Kiley. Emma graduated from Dalhousie University in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science with a Double Major in Environmental Science and Environment, Sustainability & Society (ESS). Her degree focused largely on the negative impacts of our current food system, the importance of strengthening community, and the role of grassroots initiatives in supporting a local economy. Through her education and experience living in Dublin, Ireland, she was inspired to return to her hometown of Musquodobit Harbour and start a business that embodies her values of local, sustainable food, and one that serves as a hub for her community.
The mission of Uprooted Market & Cafe is to improve the accessibility of local food to residents and visitors of Musquodobit Harbour and surrounding communities. This is why Uprooted Market sells locally grown and produced goods such as fruit, vegetables, Foxhill non-homogonized milk, free-run eggs, yogurt and grains as well as environmentally friendly cleaning products, artisan soaps and scented products. The cafe offers healthy lunch options such as soups, salads and sandwiches, as well as Laughing Whale’s fair trade organic coffee and espresso from Lunenburg and Tea Brewery loose teas from Mahone Bay.
